Richard Squires is the Owner of LifeStory Memoir, in which he writes people’s memoirs in their own words, creating a legacy that families will cherish for generations.
Richard is a writer, writing instructor, and family man who loves stories of all kinds. His love of stories began with the movies, which he devoured with his film-buff father starting at an early age. An avid reader, filmgoer, and creative writer through high school, Richard decided in college to major in English literature and writing, with a minor in Film.
After working in the film industry after college, including gigs with Woody Allen and Merchant Ivory, Richard worked for a while in publishing, and then decided to earn his first master’s degree in writing. In the years that followed, Richard found great success and pleasure as a high school teacher, tutor, college writing professor, and writer in corporate communications, reporting on technology tools and employee successes, mostly for pharmaceutical and finance companies.
But his heart really lay in creative writing, so in 2012, Richard began his MFA program with a concentration in fiction, which is where he honed the writing skills he employs to write memoirs at LifeStory today.

Growing up, Richard’s close-knit family loved to tell stories, but there was one story that his grandfather told that Richard always found most gripping. When Richard’s grandfather was eighteen years old during WWII, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force, and became a pilot flying B17 fighter planes in the Pacific.
During some missions, the enemy launched projectiles from the ground below that exploded and sent out flak, shards of metal, that would rip apart the planes. During one battle, the flak ripped off the floor of Richard’s grandfather’s plane. Pieces went into his leg, creating raised scars that Richard marveled at as a young boy. Flak also went into his co-pilot’s head, which killed him.
To save his own life, Richard’s grandfather had to bail out and parachute down into the ocean. Surrounded by sharks, he and other soldiers held on for dear life to their radio flotation devices, which they called Mae West after the famous actress. Thankfully, the soldiers were picked up before the sharks attacked, and my grandfather lived to be able to share his story.
In 2015, Richard’s grandfather asked him to write his memoir, which Richard completed when his grandfather was in the last stage of life. The experience was so fulfilling that Richard was inspired to create LifeStory, the perfect union between his passion for writing and storytelling with his love of family and history.
Since then, Richard has written dozens of books for families celebrating their loved ones’ fascinating lives. Clients include Holocaust survivors, war veterans, immigrants, business moguls, doctors, a baker, a film director, activists, Foreign Service officers, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, spouses, children, and more.
Richard is always delighted to speak with anybody who may be considering creating a memoir for themselves or a loved one, or even for an entire family or business.
